Where Does The Time Go?

As a devoutly religious person I must make today’s post a short one since it’s…what, what holiday is it again?

[Conducts quick Internet search]

Rosh Hashugganah!

My references are as stale as that Power Bar from 1998 you find in the pocket of that old jersey in the back of your closet.

But yes, with schools closed I must strap on the parenting helmet, so it’s you who get the short end of the frame pump:

Remember that? It even had a license plate!

Bloody Australians.

Indeed, so busy am I that yesterday all I had time for was a quick ride on George Plimpton’s Y-Foil, a.k.a. The Charity Ride Destroyer, a.k.a. the Pumpkin Spiced Nightmare:

It’s quite seasonally appropriate, as it’s like riding a two-wheeled jack-o’-lantern:

And it’s not just the orange, red, and black color scheme, either. It’s also the fact that both the Y-Foil and the jack-o’-lantern just miss being menacing and instead veer off into goofiness.

I’ve been looking to the Plimptonator when time is a factor because it’s the only bike I currently keep in my actual apartment, which means I save precious minutes not going down to the basement. (Yes, a visitor to my home might think that’s my only bike, which is incredibly awkward for me.) Also, I do catch myself wondering if I’m actually saving additional time due to the aero frame and wheels. If so, then the Y-Foil is the perfect bike for the busy (and completely unselfconscious) professional–or slovenly semi-professional bike blogger, as the case may be.

Also, as loud at it is visually, it can’t rival how actually loud modern road bikes have become. The last time I rode over the George Washington Bridge onto the popular roadie route the remnants of my hair stood on end the entire time due to the incessant howling of disc brakes all around me. And if it wasn’t the bikes baying at the moon, it was the hideous ratcheting of their stupid high-decibel freehubs. RATTLERATTLERATTLE–HOOOOOONK! RATTLERATTLERATTLE-HOOOOOONK! How do people stand for this? It’s all in the name of “better braking,” but I’d rather ride a quiet bike and go plummeting into a ravine. Their bikes sound like they’re blowing the shofar:

And on that note, Happy New Year!
